ASHEVILLE — The YMI Cultural Center, in conjunction with the Asheville Area Arts Council, will host a town meeting from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the center’s auditorium.

Anyone involved in the arts, or interested in the arts in Buncombe County, is encouraged to attend.

The meeting will offer a forum for people to participate in a public dialogue about the state of the arts and future possibilities, as related to the HUB plan.

The Hub Project is the blueprint for a new approach to growing the local economy that attempts to use existing assets in healthcare, weather data and creative uses of technology with more traditional assets such as the Buncombe County manufacturing base to attract new jobs and economic activity.

The town meeting will be led by Louise Stevens of ArtsMarket Inc., a consulting firm in Bozeman, Mont.

Stevens has been contracted by the Arts Council to work with its steering committee to identify the needs, issues, and opportunities for shaping arts economic development strategies in Asheville.

The Asheville Area Arts Council is leading the creative/cultural cluster of the HUB plan to form collaborations between nonprofit, private and public interests.

Council members have contracted with Stevens to guide the process.

ArtsMarket’s process will identify multifaceted arts development initiatives that would yield sustainable economic return on investment in Asheville and the county, and determine multi-year strategies to accomplish the initiatives.
